Dropping by SS15, Subang Jaya but don't know what to eat? I'm here to help.

For those who don't know, SS15 in Subang Jaya is generally a business district but more popularly known as an education hub with numerous educational institutes available around the area.
With lots of students living and roaming around SS15, they're gonna need food and this caused a clutter of food options with franchises and small business owners competing to earn a piece of the 'market share' around SS15. Sadly, not all of them survived the battle royale of the food business here. It's basically a norm for one shop to close down, and another to open here here. SS15 has practically been my home for the past years (2014-2018) while I was studying in an institute with a capital 'I'. Here are 5 of my top picks for SS15. *The picks are not made in any chronological order My top picks are based on the following criteria: 1. Popularity (Reputation)
2. Taste
3. Value 4. Service
1. Gold Chilli SS15

Location: 5, Jalan SS 15/8b, Ss 15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor Working Days: Monday - Saturday (Off on Sunday)
Opening Hours: 12.00PM - 11.30PM Phone: 03-5124 7522
First Impression: Yes, it looks like just another ordinary old-looking restaurant you see everywhere. But don't let that fool you, Gold Chilli SS15 packs a punch in terms of customer base. Almost every single time i've been there or just passing through, it will be PACKED and almost mandatory that you will find yourself queuing for it especially during the peak lunch and dinner hours.
"The secret? It's the sauce"

Gold Chilli has many food options but... Long story short, this is what sells. The famous 'Butter Chicken Rice' that everyone comes for (me included). The first taste of it will change your life forever.
Okay, maybe it's not that dramatic lah..... but it definitely left a deep impression on me. The rich butter taste with a hint of green chilli in it just melts my tongue. Walao weyh....
The secret? It's the sauce.
I can just eat the rice with the sauce itself. The chicken is like a nice addition to the taste, or maybe even for the nutritional value but in terms of taste, it's definitely the sauce. The price of it is as follows: 1. Chicken
a. (for a la carte): RM 8.00 (Small) & RM 11.50 (Big)
b. (for set): RM10.50 (Small) & RM 14.50 (Big)
2. Boneless Chicken:
a. (for a la carte): RM 9.00 (Small) & RM 13.00 (Big)
b. (for set): RM 11.50 (Small) & RM 16.00 (Big)
A la carte is basically just the chicken with sauce. The set meal comes with a bowl of rice + one plain soup + one glass of Teh 'O' Ice. From my opinion, the plain soup and Teh 'O' Ice is tasteless. I only choose the set because i'm the type of guy that can't have a meal without a drink. I really wish they would fix that someday. So if you can do without the soup and drink, my advice is, just to go for the a la carte and rice. Rice is just an additional RM 1.50.
2. Uncle Soon Fried Rice SS15

Location: 95, Jalan SS 15/4b, Ss 15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor Located in: Restoran Foh Foh Subang Jaya Working Days: Everyday
Opening Hours:
a. Monday - Friday: 10:30AM - 3.00PM & 4:30PM - 8.30PM
b. Saturday & Sunday: 12.00PM - 3.00PM & 4:30PM - 8.30PM
You know the saying "What matters is on the inside?". Well, Uncle Soon Fried Rice is pretty much that. They don't exactly own a restaurant of their own, but they operate as one of the hawker vendors in a 'group of hawker stalls' restaurant which all the SS15 folks call Foh Foh (at least that's what my friends and I calls it). Uncle Soon Fried Rice is simplicity at it's best. Why?
They only sell fried rice. But they are damn good at it.
The price of it is as follows:
1. Prawn Fried Rice: RM 6.50 (Small), RM 7.00 (Big) & RM 7.50 (Extra Big)
2. Char Siew Fried Rice: RM 7.00 (Small), RM 7.50 (Big) & RM 8.00 (Extra Big)
3. Char Siew + Prawn Fried Rice: RM 9.00 (Small), RM 9.50 (Big) & RM 10.00 (Extra Big)
4. Egg: +RM 0.50 (Applicable to all the prices above)
The small portion is like an average meal you find everywhere else (hawker stall standard). I usually just order the Prawn Fried Rice with Egg (Small). When I feel like eating a little more, then I would opt for the 'big' portion.

What taste great is really subjective to different people. I feel it's the rice and egg. Some says it's the 'char siew' (barbequed pork) or prawn and others says it's the 'sambal' that comes with the rice.
Regardless, if you need your fried rice fix. This is where you should be going to.
3. Ooi Noodle House SS15

Location: 78, Jalan SS 15/4b, Ss 15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor Working Days: Tuesday - Sunday (Off on Monday)
Opening Hours: 7.45AM - 4.00PM
For the last pick of this list, just walk across the street from Uncle Soon Fried Rice and you'll come to Ooi's Noodle House. It's the most popular Pork Noodles shop in SS15.
You want to eat it? Be prepared to wait-for-it.
The first time I had my lunch there. I was told to wait approximately 40 minutes for it. Well, that 40 minutes turned out to be about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The price of it is as follows:
1. Pork Noodle: RM 9.00 (Small) & RM 10.00 (Big)
You can choose the type of noodle to be kuey teow, mee suah, mee hun, mee or loh shi fun. I like mine to be loh shi fun (rat noodles). The dish comes with noodle, pork slices, a bit of vegetable, an egg (optional), pork bits and pork innards. If you the pork innards isn't your thing, just let them know and they will leave it out for you.
"The pork bits and slices absorbed the broth really well, the essence is just oozing out of them with every bite"
What I love about this dish is the rich and hot (no puns intended) porky broth that makes this dish a whole. It fills me up and warms me up on the inside. The pork bits and slices absorbed the broth really well, the essence is just oozing out of them with every bite.
Feeling cold or sad? I'd suggest you go for this. It was my 'happy pill' (except for the waiting part).
